Fresh from the runways, Prolific Magazine presents the five best Spring/Summer 2009 Men’s collections. Get ready, take notes and bust out the wallet.
-Rag & Bone
A recipe for Rag & Bone’s 2009 Spring/Summer Collection
1 Cup: British Skinhead
1 Cup: Ian Curtis
1 Cup: Mod
3 tbsp: Gingham
1 teaspoon of
a dash of razor sharp Saville Row tailoring
add tie clips, suspenders and pocket squares to taste
What We Like: The mixing of patterns, wearability and rock and roll attitude.
-Burberry Prorsum
If you can get past the bucket hats, Christopher Bailey’s newest offering is a fresh departure from Burberry’s tried and true formal wear. Muted colors, worn fabrics and layers galore help to give these pieces a comfortable, “that favorite sweater that you’ve had for years and will never get rid of” sort of feel. While creating an air of luxury, Bailey still maintains Burberry’s refined edge, pairing rumpled shirts and cardigans with cleanly tailored pants and jackets. The collection leaves one with a sense of relaxed elegance.
What We Like: Muted Colors, Loads of Layers and Trim Jackets
-Hermès
In their newest collection, Hermès goes on vacation in Spain. Earth tones create a laid-back appeal, while splashes of color add a little spice to the desert palate. Scarves and cumberbunds give the ensemble a Spanish flair, completed by the espandrilles. This season’s Hermes man is the embodiment of the laid-back latin holiday.
What We Like: Latino flavor, effortless execution.
-Yves Saint Laurent
it may have been a hard season for Stefano Pilati to design, given the recent death of the label’s founding father. Pilati rises to the occasion, crafting a collection that Laurent himself would have been proud of. By opening the pants up, Pilati instills in his pieces a kind of mellow attitude. The jackets have a unstructured element to them, while neutral colors and soft, flowing fabrics keep the collection classy. As the whole, the collection is a modern take on the timeless Yves Saint Laurent style.
What We Like: Double breasted jackets, sleek leather coats, Pilati’s forward thinking.
-Gucci
